I have always been passionate about animals and people. Through my own struggles with a disability I didn’t know I had, I quickly learned about empathy and that my mental and emotional struggles were animals and people’s struggles also.
When it comes to animals, I have a soft spot for them. I hate to see any animal hurt or harmed and will always do what I can to make a difference.
We have acquired a resident hedgehog. ‘Hogs’ as they’re called, leave their nests after dusk to look for insects such as beetles, caterpillars, and invertebrates including slugs and earthworms.
They also feed on berries and fruits. In the spring and summer months they build fat reserves, ready for their hibernation in the winter months. They forage on bugs and snails, but if you leave cat or dog food out for them, they will eat that too.
We must want to do more for wildlife, for animals. There is a lot of good out there, but there are too many sad stories where animals are abandoned or abused. Animals are helpless and they need a voice.
They need to help them survive in their natural habitats. We need them to survive. Their survival helps us, and our own survival. We must do more to help protect and preserve their lives.
