A Christine Morgan quote

Something inspirational:

“Setting boundaries is a way of caring for myself. It doesn’t make me mean, selfish, or uncaring because I don’t do things your way. I care about me too.”

  1. This was why I had to leave my last relationship, as my then girlfriend never respected my boundaries.

If it didn’t happen after 13 years, I don’t think it was ever going to. My daughter was the one who started the process, seeing as I had to rescue her from where she was living and then pretty much got slapped in the face for my efforts.

She never once thanked me for saving her from her mother, who was grooming her to be a surrogate wife for her husband. I finally refused to be treated like the bad guy, especially by my own daughter thanks to her aunt, who managed to convince my daughter that I only went out to get her, in order to be able to use her disability check.

It was much worse, but the end result was that I decided to set boundaries and will no longer tolerate being treated badly by anyone.

    1. Thanks Randy. You did it! Boundaries are good. I think it a shame we have to use them, but as your story shows it is necessary.

‘I care about me too.’ I think that sums up Christine’s quote. For us to succeed we must care about ourselves. Caring for ourselves is the difference between a successful life and us not meeting with success.

Our life isn’t just about setting boundaries. We have to want to ‘like ourselves,’ also.

  2. “I care about me too.” What a profound thing to reveal! That’s not an easy thing to tell someone, unfortunately.

I was probably guilty of abandoning myself to please others once upon a time, but not now.

    1. Music to my ears Tim. That’s right. We lose ourselves in other people’s lives because we often have no choice.

But without learning to like or live with ourselves, we cannot expect to like or live with anyone else. I am so pleased you’ve changed your attitude. You matter. Others must understand that.
