A Lao Tzu quote

Something inspirational:

“Simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures. Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being. Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are. Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world.”

  1. We could all do well to exhibit these three characteristics a bit more.

Someone once told me to be nice to someone I didn’t particularly get along with, which I did and for a while it certainly improved our relationship.

    1. Thanks. Yes I agree. The world would certainly be a better place to live in.

Your experiences have gone on to show that being nice to someone we don’t particularly get along with, can have positive benefits and outcomes.

  2. I try my best to be as patient as possible when dealing with my friends and especially my enemies. But to accord myself with the way things are is not a practical solution for me.

Relationships should evolve and change should be encouraged, as oppose to resigning myself to what is. But I brought simplicity with me to my new life, it’s humbling and refreshing at the same time.

    1. Thanks Tim. Yes you’re absolutely right. Relationships should evolve, change and should be encouraged, but my experience has proved to show the opposite.

When we leave the past behind we pave the way for spiritual and emotional growth. We change when we move on from our past.

We must come to live in the present time without any strings attached. I love the fact that you have learned how to bring simplicity to your life. I believe and from what you respond to here on the site, that you have evolved.

I’m not sure how many really do. Their actions and words seem to tell a different story. Like you, I too choose not to resign myself to what is, if those circumstances aren’t right or appropriate.

We must be true to ourselves and speak our own truth.

  3. Very great qualities to practice. I interpret simplicity to being humble.

We need to realize we all have the same amount of self worth and deserve to be treated as such. When we show these three characteristics toward people we attract them back to our life.

  4. This says it all!! Thank you Ilana! I haven’t been on here for a long time, I’m bad I know I’m sorry. I’ll make sure to make it a daily habit.
