A Maya Angelou quote

Something inspirational:

“You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot – it’s all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive.”

  1. I try to be positive, but sometimes the negative bleeds through, like when it’s time to budget or tackling the finances, sometimes I get depressed. But on the lighter side we are making a dent in them having paid off a couple so we can breathe a little.

Maya was a wise woman. Every time I hear of something she’s said, it’s always positive.

    1. Thanks Maria. Yes its not always easy to stay positive. I agree with you. As a child I tried to be positive myself, but found it difficult because of the environment I grew up in.

I agree with you about your thoughts on Maya. Yes she was a very wise woman and very positive. To understand emotions and life in the way she did made her very wise. Not everyone can.

  2. I can’t agree more with this quote. We must do everything possible to surround ourselves with positive things. Negativity just drains us and makes us unhappy.

That’s why we should be mindful of what we do and say. We must realize that our actions affect the ones around us.

    1. You’re right Maria, but not many people either accept or see that their actions will affect others. To some degree we are the product of our family and their family before them, unless we change the way we deal with and perceive them.

I believe everything and everybody has an influence on us good or bad. It’s up to us to make sure those influences stay positive, even if the experiences themselves are not.

  3. I try to stay away from negative people, because negative people produce negative results. Especially the passive aggressive type personalities that mask themselves as more friendly than they really are.

Maya Angelou is describing the Art of Separation, she’s insulating herself from outside power and control of her space.

    1. Thanks Tim. I agree with you and believe Maya Angelou is right to insulate herself from outside power and control of her space. I think more of us should.

I’ve had to do that for the whole of my life. I know how it works. Although it’s not easy to do and it doesn’t always help, it very much is something we should learn to do, if the need is there and it becomes appropriate.
