A quote by Spielberg

Something inspirational:

“My parents taught me how to listen to everybody before I made up my own mind. When you listen, you learn. You absorb like a sponge-and your life becomes so much better than when you are just trying to be listened to all the time.”

  1. We should listen to others before we make decisions. We may not know the whole truth. I think children and kids soak up things like a sponge but as we get older I don’t think we do as much.

We have learned and experienced a lot by that time and our minds are closed to new things sometimes. I also think a lot of people prejudge and don’t listen to others to get the whole story so they can make up their own minds, which I don’t think is right.

    1. I think you’re absolutely right Lisa. When we don’t listen intently enough, we tend to think we know without really knowing and that’s when we get things wrong.

When we listen, we understand and when we understand we’re more informed. That way we’re going to be less judgmental.

  2. My parents taught me how to disconnect from the real world so I wasn’t very good at listening! It was very strange because I grew up feeling like a priest, where everybody seemed to want to tell me things that I really didn’t want to know about.

Now I have become a lot better at being able to listen and filter out so much of the noise which makes my life so much easier!

  3. Thanks Randy. I also wasn’t connected as a child, so I know how you feel.

It does go some way to helping us filter out and switch off to things we don’t want to listen to, but there does come a time when we have to learn to connect.

I’m pleased you’re at the stage where you have the capacity to listen and filter out the parts you probably don’t need to listen to. I know that will certainly help.

  4. Great quote. I know many people who are only interested in talking and other people listening to what they have to say.

There is so much more to be gained by learning to listen.

    1. I think it’s a great quote too. We can learn a lot from it. Anyone can listen, but not everyone really wants to listen. Either we’re not interested or prepared for it.

  5. I’ve learned to see, not just look, but see things and listen to what I see.

By active listening, we begin to see the devil in the details.
