A Yung Pueblo quote

Something inspirational:

“Ask yourself often: am I observing the situation accurately or am I projecting how I feel onto what is happening.”

  1. We often project our feelings onto people and situations, sometimes without realising.

It’s perhaps not surprising that many people are unaware that their feelings towards others, are largely determined by their feelings toward themselves. Whatever we feel often has nothing to do with what we’re projecting on to others.

We have to be comfortable with ourselves before we can be comfortable with those around us and the situations we encounter.

    1. Thank you. Yes, it’s true when we’re mentally or emotionally struggling we do often project our thoughts on to others. If we were to stand back and think about that, I think we would behave differently.

Life is difficult, it has become even more difficult in Covid-19. It has become even more important to take responsibility and to not project how we feel on others.

  2. This will be my third attempt over the past few days to post a comment! I’m trying very hard to not project my feelings on the situation right now.

Yes, my parents were experts at gaslighting. In the early years I wasn’t always fully aware of how things were, so it was no wonder I was confused on what was happening and what I thought was happening.

But I was always a very smart and perceptive child, so even though in the beginning it wasn’t always obvious, I came to understand exactly what was going on, which is probably why I was so traumatized by my childhood.

    1. Thanks Randy. Yes, I’m hearing you and thanks for persevering. Your parents will know now for sure now. And although it isn’t always right, they may have in fact given you a different way to think.

Your parents should never have projected what they felt on you. When it’s clear parents don’t get things right, they’re inadvertently showing us how not to parent. It’s far from ideal, but it is helpful in helping us understand.
