An Idris Elba quote

Something inspirational:

“I’m an ambitious person. I never consider myself in competition with anyone, and I’m not saying that from an arrogant standpoint, it’s just that my journey started so, so long ago, and I’m still on it and I won’t stand still.”

  1. I wasn’t always an ambitious person, but my parents never gave me much of a reason to be ambitious. They didn’t notice or acknowledge anything I did.

Now that I’m finally doing things for my own benefit, my life has greatly improved! I try not to feel the guilt, shame and remorse like I used to, but sometimes it’s there, it’s not always easy.

I am hoping I can make the best of my time, to be able to accomplish some of the things that I always wanted to.

    1. Thanks Randy. Yes, as Idris Elba isn’t standing still, neither should you, or I.

You can make a difference, it doesn’t matter your starting point. I love that you say you’re doing things for your own benefit and your life has greatly improved.

It would be amazing for you to keep that up. Good on you.

  2. I don’t see myself as ambitious, I prefer the quiet life. I too wasn’t encouraged to be ambitious, my parents weren’t ambitious either.

But I am still a competitive person, particularly in my work, where I can be like a dog with a bone when I know I am right and I am not making progress.

I don’t think we can ever stand still as our lives are journey of personal development, so standing still means you’ll be back for more lessons.

    1. Thank you. Yes, when they say you don’t go to school to be a parent, it’s true we don’t, but the irony is we should.

Since parenting is the most important job we will do, it is important to think about how as a parent we can make things better for our children.

Usually ambition comes in on the back of encouragement. Although Idris Elba doesn’t refer to his background in his quote, it is clear his childhood was, what I would call near to perfect.

Sadly, many people stand still without making progress. Not everyone learns their lessons. Personally, I have seen it and continue to see it.
