True friendship

Something inspirational:

“One of the tasks of true friendship is to listen compassionately and creatively to the hidden silences. Often secrets are not revealed in words, they lie concealed in the silence between the words or in the depth of what is unsayable between two people.”

  1. Ilana, you just turned up the dimmer switch with this quote and made me see what’s concealed in the silence.

There’s a whole lot going on there.

    1. Thanks Tim. Yes, when you work with ‘your intuition’ you understand the silence. There is usually too much going on in there.

I love that you ‘got it.’

  2. I haven’t had very many true friends in my life, mostly because I wasn’t really allowed to have them as a kid.

My mother brainwashed me into being a people pleaser too, which didn’t help either, seeing as she forced me to be friends with the worst kind of people.

I eventually lost the ability to tell the difference between a good or bad person, so most of the time I would end up with the worst kind of friends.

Nowadays I try to make sure I trust my instincts, which are usually right. I only have a few true friends who I can read like a book and between the lines, so I know when they’re having troubles.

It would be great to have at least a few more, but I’m slowly working on it.

    1. Thanks Randy. Yes, a few true friends are good. Too many friends and you’d have to spread yourself thin. But what’s important is having the right friends.

I would rather have three good friends, than ten friends who I struggle to trust. Not all friends are good friends.

    1. Thanks. Yes, I love quotes that help us ‘think outside the box.’ This is one such quote. Not all relationships need us to speak.

Often it is the unspoken words that we come to understand that hold the most important meaning. I understand the meaning behind its words.
