Because we’re all a product of our own individual experiences and upbringings, it’s only natural that our opinions will differ on a whole range of topics. The more our opinions differ, the less accepting we will be on other people’s opinions.
Of course, there is a train of thought that the world would be a dull place if we were all the same, but it’s the incredible diversity that makes our world such a fascinating place. It’s up to each and everyone one of us to buy into that diversity and learn to appreciate each other’s opinions through our different diversities.
We’ve become less tolerant through those who hold different opinions. Some of us may feel inferior that our opinions seem worthless on the back of others’ opinions, but that’s a confidence thing. We’re all entitled to our opinion, even though we may not agree with other people’s opinions.
We can still maintain our own identity and still have valid views and be tolerant of what each of us have to say. We don’t have to convince the other person of our opinions, in the same way they don’t have to convince us of theirs, but it’s important for us to embrace each other’s differences and other people’s views and opinions. That’s how we relate to and understand each other better.
We must also make sure we treat others with the same degree of respect, as we would want ourselves. Listening to and hearing other people’s opinions will help us learn more about the world and how other people’s words and what we’re told can make us better people.
Unfortunately, we’re too quick to judge, instead of understanding the person behind the words. Taking our time to get to know someone, is far better than prejudging them.
