Focusing on ourselves

“He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the world.” – it seems hard to focus our attentions on others, when we have difficulties focusing our attentions on ourselves.

We cannot reach out to others when we’re not up to it and not being up to it, may lead to burn out us trying to help others. We need to regroup, to refocus on ourselves and slow down the pace at which we do things.

Booking friends out in advance says we’re not giving ourselves enough time to sit and relax. It is so important we learn to strike a balance so that we’re not always trying to fill a calendar space.

We must also draw a line under what goes wrong in our day and instead choose to do something positive, even if we’re not feeling positive. Taking three or four deep breaths before any task will help us re-focus.

As we take those deep breaths, we learn to disconnect and then re-connect again, this time on a more positive footing.

  1. I know that has been most of my problem over the years, considering how much time I end up focusing on everyone’s problems versus my own.

Like you said, it comes down to the matter of realizing that I can actually change my own life for the better. I just need to make the changes even though I know it will be difficult to live with; but considering the alternatives, I know it would be for the best!

I’ll just have to pray that things work out for the best in the end.

    1. Randy like you said yourself you know that you can change your own life for the better. You just have to say ‘no more.’ Once you have made the decision to say no to other people, you’ll live with the idea more comfortably.

There is an element of guilt attached to those initial changes we make, but in time is subsides. I know you can do this. Nice to have you on site and thank you for posting.

  2. I know this all to well. I definitely don’t take the time for myself.

I work 4 days a week, then work at home the other days. But I’m learning that I need to take some time once in a while for myself, due to a recent trip to the hospital ICU.

I’m sure my fast paced lifestyle didn’t help at all, (it helped me land in hospital).
