Here and Now

We need to live in the ‘here and now.’ It is important we don’t run from problems. If we have something that we need to deal with, we need to find a way through.

Living in the here and now, means mentally focusing on and living in the present and that can help you live a fuller life. It is important we put the emphasis on what is happening in our life, at the moment it happens. As a child it’s often difficult to do, but as the adult, it is exactly what we need to do.

As children, we don’t always know how to be mindful, we may often be in a world of our own, not necessarily because we’re struggling with something, but we may live in a daydream world, away from adult life.

Dealing with the here and now, means we will all cope better, because we’re living presently. Our ability in our adult years to be able to deal with things in the ‘here and now’ is testament to how well we have come through childhood. But dealing with the here and now is important if we are to come through happier and more balanced individuals.

When we mentally run from our issues, we will struggle to deal with things, and that will always have an effect on our mental health.

  1. Staying in the present wasn’t something I was good at, thanks to the way I was brainwashed but I have been working on it.

Things like DBT and staying in touch with you have helped tremendously. Once you get trapped in that cycle of focusing on things like wanting other people to suffer the way you did, it becomes all that you can think of. I wasted most of my life dwelling on the past and never looking forward, so I missed out on a lot of things like being there for my daughter.

Now at 52 years old, and still have life ahead of me, I don’t want to waste that time, like I did when I was younger. The past year has proven how much I can do, once I set my mind to it.

Turns out that I’m actually pretty good at working with power tools and wood, which has surprised even me. I have the rare ability to watch people do things, and repeat what they did usually after only a couple of tries.

Right now I want to become stable in my life, and at least have the chance to be there for my daughter, as and when she wants me to be a part of her life again.

    1. Thanks Randy. Yes, hearing you loud and clear. Your life is for you and for the taking, pandemic willing.

There is a famous saying ‘Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, which is why we call it the present’ – something my mum used to say, not sure in what context, but how absolutely true.

The here and now is for to change things, make amends and just live the best life that we can live and once the pandemic is over, I am sure many people will now buy into that thought process.

The pandemic teaches us that, life is to be lived, nothing can be taken for granted and we get one crack at life, it’s important to think about what you want from it.

Whilst we’re not always in a position to make changes, often until our circumstances change, we can make things better in certain areas of our lives.

If we’re not happy, it is important we say what we’re not happy with, so we can move ourselves into a better head space.
