Last night’s events

Having spent all of last night with stomach cramps, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, I woke up at 4:15 am with the same cramps, still clutching on to the hot water bottle that I had gone to bed with.

The offending food seemed to be carrot and coriander soup, which I have had many times before and although carrot is high in fibre, it’s not normally classed as an offending food.

It’s recommended we take an Acidophilus and Enzyme Digest preparation before meals. There is also an IBS herbal tincture remedy called Yarrow which is very effective.

In my own case, there is definitely a correlation between Cerebral Palsy and IBS. Being born 6 weeks premature, having Cerebral Palsy and chronic constipation, when I was a child, I am sure has led me down this path.

It’s up to us to work through the offending foods that bring on our symptoms, but we must be more vigilant and cut down stress too. Because stress always plays its part.

  1. Sorry you’re having tummy problems. I can’t say I know how you feel because I thank goodness don’t have the problem. I guess I’m lucky in that a lot of people with fms have IBS. When I get stressed out I get really fatigued and may get headaches. From my experience as a nurse I know that stress can definitely bring on the IBS symptoms. I’m sorry you have to deal with this. I wish there was something I could do or say to make it better for you. I can pray for you and send positive thoughts which I do. Lisa

    1. Many many thanks Lisa. You are absolutely right, stress can be a trigger for IBS. I’m working on finding out which foods trigger IBS for me. The known allergens which are wheat and dairy I know I already have problems with.

Thanks for your concern and of course your support. You’re a gem.

  2. Try to stay as calm as possible and do not lose sleep. You need rest girl, then things will be better. I always feel better when I get a good night’s sleep. Things hopefully will be brighter tomorrow.

  3. Oh, I know what that can be like at times and it’s never a pleasant thing! I’m sure there must be a connection between the CP and the IBS. I have to be very careful myself not to drink a lot of coffee which usually gets my IBS going! Hope you get to feel better ASAP.

    1. So you know exactly how I feel Randy! I firmly believe there is a link between the two, but there is very little information out there that proves the link, although as a child I did have difficulties going to the toilet and I believe that is a major contribution to IBS and CP.

I do feel better now. I’ll have to make sure I continue to stay well without the problems of IBS!
