Look at how far you’ve come

Generally, we tend not to look, see or think about how far we’ve come. That usually only happens when we consciously look back at our life and we can see how far we’ve come.

But looking back is important and something we need to think about. Perhaps it’s also got something to do with our past, a past we’d rather forget, or a past we’re stuck in and that’s the reason we can’t move on. But a difficult past will always feel uneasy unless we learn to be compassionate with ourselves.

We tend not to look, but instead base how successful we are through our accomplishments, not our personal best on how far we’ve come, but we must always look at our personal best and how far we’ve come, because it’s our personal best where we do the most emotional work on ourselves.

Our personal best will also tell us how far we’ve come and how much further we have to go. Our accomplishments, won’t give us that. But even through difficult paths, we can still come through even more focused and look how far we’ve come.

So choose to check in with yourself every now and again and see how far you’ve come. It will help you decide on the next step.

  1. Right now I feel like I’m in pretty much the same position I was 25 years ago, in a relationship that I didn’t want to be in, but not knowing how to change things.

Thankfully, it isn’t a divorce this time, but we have been together for 12 years so it will be complicated and thankfully there aren’t any children involved.

This happens to be one of the biggest issues for me to deal with, which I have been putting off for a very long time. I imagine that I have come quite a way when I think about it, seeing as I wasted so many years trying to avoid the subject and suffered as a result.

I just want to know what it’s like to be able to live my own life for a change and not feel so damn guilty about it.

    1. Randy, it’s your life don’t let others make you feel guilty. I learned very late and to my cost, but it’s true.

I do think you’ve come a long way. Even though your circumstances haven’t changed, you know what’s best for you. You’re also talking about what’s best for you.

Now you have to do what’s best for you.

  2. I’ve made refinements to my life over the years, noticeably. But my spirit is still hungry for the kind of peace I imagine.

It’s a blur right now but it’s there.

    1. Thanks Tim. Yes, our spirit becomes a blur when we begin to struggle with our life, with certain situations or certain people.

But it’s important we all learn to work together. I think that’s where we struggle. Emotionally were further apart than we’ve ever been.

That’s when our spirit becomes a blur.
