Mental health issues

Mental health is the psychological state of someone who functions at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioural adjustment. To admit we deal with issues, or even recognise we have emotional issues is the hardest thing we will ever do.

It is very sad that in the 21st century, we still don’t talk about things and say how we feel. Instead we choose to ignore and isolate our feelings, in the hope those feelings will go away, without looking for outside help.

Dealing with mental health issues

There needs to be a shift in how people come to discuss and manage their feelings, with information being made more readily available, so there is less of a stigma surrounding mental health issues.

More people would come forward if the stigma surrounding mental health weren’t there. Mental health issues need to come out of the shadows and into the public arena, so that more people talk about the issues concerning them and how they feel.

When I went into counselling in my early 30’s, it wasn’t something you advertised. I personally wasn’t bothered who knew, but stigmas are still centred around mental health. Our perceptions of people dealing with mental health issues are completely outdated. We need to bring mental health issues back into the public arena and into the 21st century.

It needs to become less of an issue and more of a topic of conversation, so it’s something we don’t shy away from, but learn to deal with and talk about.

  1. Yes I agree with you on this. Mental health needs to be out in the open more.

If more people got help for their problems I think the world would be a happier place. People shouldn’t have to suffer quietly. There are things they can do to make things better for them.

I had a little depression and recently it had gotten worse and I spoke to my practitioner about how I was feeling and she helped me and now I feel much better, even though I’ve been going through an especially stressful time.

People shouldn’t have to hide from their mental health problems and it shouldn’t be a hush-hush topic.

    1. Thanks Lisa. Ditto, I agree with you. So sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with depression lately.

With your doctor’s help I hope you continue to feel better.

  2. I agree there is way too much stigma associated with our mental health and while much has improved in recent years, much is still not discussed or understood and so swept under the carpet.

It is very much something that we should all be happy to talk about and in doing so will more fully understand.
