Supporting Mental Illness

Mental illness isn’t always supported and accepted. Not everyone will act like they are supportive, but will be quick to make those people who struggle feel bad. We must be supportive of everyone.

Mental illness is often invisible to the untrained eye, and unless you’re aware or you understand how mental illness looks, you may even start to think those people are being stubborn.

Mental illness includes a broad range of behaviours and symptoms that are not always obvious to the untrained eye, but they’re there. It is important we are aware of the signs that might suggest someone is experiencing mental health problems.

One indicator may be that the person is struggling in ways that are uncharacteristic for them. Uncharacteristic behaviour changes may reflect personal difficulties around mental health difficulties.

When it comes to mental illness or disability, it is wrong for others to act like they are supportive, then when it comes to it, the other person is treated like they’re a burden, or they’re annoying and they’re then made to feel bad. Society needs to drop the stigma attached to both.

A mental illness isn’t something that can be concealed, it’s also not something others will be aware they have, but it will be obvious to others.  At the rise of the pandemic, supporting mental health has never been so important than it is now.

We must all act and be a support to one another in these difficult times. Not to means more discord and harmony in a time when we need to be working together.

  1. We must create positive living conditions and environments to prevent mental illness, promote good mental health and support those struggling with mental health issues.

    For someone with a mental illness, support can literally mean life or death and anyone can experience mental health problems. This should be the number one priority within governments, but sadly that it not the case.

    Your blog does both, it promotes good mental health and supports us with what we may have to deal with. It is the embodiment of all that is good and what I consider good mental health.

    1. Thanks. Yes, when it comes to mental health we must be in control, but others must support us also. The problem is we’re conditioned from an early age and where we continue to live through being conditioned we will fail to think for ourselves.

      I agree with you. It is clear, particularly in the current climate that governments are failing, therefore it is more important we take control for ourselves. I go back to my own case, because it would have been easy for me to continue to live my life through others and do nothing about my disability.

      We need to have control. There very much comes a time when we need to take back control and start thinking for ourselves. I took back control. I believe we ALL can.
