Traumatic experience

Any experience that leaves you unable to cope with aspects of your life can be classed as a traumatic experience. Any traumatic experience involves trauma. We don’t all deal with trauma in the same way.

Trauma follows psychological distress, something you’re made to live, something that doesn’t abate quickly or easily. As my case shows, those who have suffered long term trauma may develop anxiety and anger. Others may experience sadness, guilt, shame or PTSD.

They may also have problems with sleep, encounter problems in their professional and personal life; they may also experience physical pain and feel a diminished sense of self-worth, due to stress just trying to keep their lives together.

It is possible to develop ways of coping with experiences in a healthy way, so lowering its effects. Pay attention to your self-care, avoid alcohol and drugs. If you’ve been out of the loop for a while, try to connect with those you can trust, exercise and try work on your sleep routine, so that your mind is calm before you sleep.

Whilst we can’t turn the clock back, it is possible through a positive sense of self and understanding to work through any traumatic experience.

  1. None of us escape traumatic events in our lives which can be overwhelming and difficult to understand.

We must engage in the process of recovery to help us find ways of coping and your site is one of those ways. Through your own experiences, and with each blog, you help us with that process.

    1. Thanks. Yes, there is nothing worse than being ‘stuck’ with your own thoughts and not being able to move forward from trauma. Sometimes we’re not even sure that is what we have experienced.

My site is a lifestyle blog that supports us in the journey I call ‘life.’ I am pleased you also find it helpful.
