Countdown to Book Launch

Over the next few days, I’ll be writing blogs to the lead up of my second Book, ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me.’

My first Book Cerebral Palsy: A Story ‘Finding the Calm After the Storm isn’t something I just got to deal with. I was born with a disability, and I brought my disability together, but the book, like ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me’ is based on universal recollections, around real-life vignettes that relate to us all.

Yes, it may be a disability, but my writing is based on the universal understanding which affects each of us. That message is important. Today, it is even more important that each of us deal with and continue to highlight our own concerns, fears and worries on what is happening out there in the world today.

Throughout the writing process, I have been open, honest, and transparent about what I deal with, choosing to engage with the world to bring my back story to life, so that we may bring each of our back stories to life, also. My writing was borne out of necessity. As a child I had no concerns. Being mentally locked away, you have no concerns, those concerns are for your family.

Fast forward to 2010 and the start of my blog The CP Diary, that would change my life. Writing and engaging isn’t easy, but also as the reader it is also not easy to engage in what other people write and relate that back to their own stories. But us just wanting to change is the first step to any form of change. We need to want to change the way we see our lives and that is what my blog helps us to do.

So, my book Cerebral Palsy: A Story ‘Finding the Calm After the Storm’ is the first step, to discovering a life-long disability I didn’t know I had, it was borne out of necessity. A necessity to put a disability together that I didn’t know I had.

Imagine growing up as a ‘special needs’ child, not knowing you are special needs, not understanding your struggles, or how your mental and emotional struggles manifest. Imagine also, not knowing why you struggle to play, or learn, or why you struggle to interact with your siblings, and your peers; why you are continually locked away mentally and emotionally and why your struggles continue to be struggles, being cut off from the very world you’re supposed to engage in.

Now with 6 days to go to the publishing of my second book ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me’ and I couldn’t be more humbled. My ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me book, which is based on real-life vignettes, is OUR spirituality and healing journey, it is not just something I deal with, it is universal, based on what each of us deal with.
