Covid-19 and Mental Health Support

Covid-19 has highlighted many discrepancies, one of which is mental health. Mental Health is never far away and yet it’s something we don’t think about and if we do it’s usually ignored, primarily because it’s too difficult for us to deal with.

But mental health is one of those things that needs to be addressed and continually needs to be addressed. It’s one of those things that never goes away, it’s one of those things we may continue to ignore, or we may put on the back burner. My mental health is never far away.

I have seen myself first-hand what happens when you don’t address mental health. I watched someone close to me struggle with her mental health, until her mental health got the better of her.

Mental health isn’t tangible, it’s not something you see, it’s something you feel. It’s in your unconscious, it’s a memory, it’s a difficulty, it’s an issue waiting to be addressed that needs dealing with.

It’s something to deal with, issues that lurk in our past; it’s us learning to think about and bring those issues into the present, so that we may deal with them. It’s accepting our issues are there, accepting that any issue we have is to do with mental health, and that taking action to deal with our issues, can change how we really feel.

It’s us accepting help when we need it. Accepting and being ready to do what it takes. To accept that Covid-19 aren’t normal times, that we may or should look for reinforcements because it’s a good thing for us to do, so that we can call upon those reinforcements should we need it.

My Book Cerebral Palsy: A Story ‘Finding the Calm After the Storm’ is the start of those reinforcements. As I take myself through my own journey, I invite others to do the same. I lead each of us by the hand and open the door on mental health, in a way that gently does it.

  1. Understanding the effects of the COVID‐19 pandemic on our mental health is just as important and in the longer term more important, as understanding its effect on our physical health.

With mental health symptoms increasing dramatically during the pandemic, nurturing mental wellness has become a collective social responsibility.

Your website and book play an important part in our understanding, the importance of our mental health and what we can do to look after it. I would encourage people to pick up a copy.

    1. Thanks. I hope I can prove to you and others reading this, my book is very much worth consideration, even more so in Covid-19. It can help each of us adjust our sails, to navigate our life around what we deal with.

There are no guarantees when it comes to mental health. Mental health issues can run in families. Mental health issues can present themselves, when we least expect them to.

These are not normal times. It is easy for mental health to take a knock. My book can help with that. I know what it’s like to struggle with mental health through autism. Through my books I am a mental health advocate.

Any form of mental illness is scary. Just carrying issues from our childhood can turn into mental health problems. We’re not born with mental health problems, but through life we can pick up mental health issues.
