Politics, Disillusionment, and Pulling Back from Extremes

What's happening in mainstream politics is concerning. It feels louder than ever, yet somehow less connected to the people it’s supposed to serve. Populism is slowly seeping in – and for many, that's becoming a growing concern.

The Problem With Mainstream Politics

For many of us, politics today feels more like a game than real decision-making. Leaders argue, promises are broken, and communities are left behind. No wonder so many people are walking away, feeling disillusioned and powerless.

But when we step back, the gap doesn’t stay empty for long.

The Rise of Right-Wing Politics

Right now, mental health is at an all-time low. Politics is divisive – many people are struggling with anxiety, stress, and disillusionment, made worse by what’s happening in politics and society. It’s a reminder that looking after our mental wellbeing is more important than ever.

I write about these things because they matter.

Why People Are Disillusioned with Politics?

When I look around, I see three main reasons:

Broken promises and self-serving politicians – words and actions rarely match.
Loss of trust in government – politics seems to put power above people.
Feeling powerless – if votes don’t seem to matter, why keep showing up?

The danger is that when people give up on political engagement, extremes step in to fill the space.

How the Wider Public Can Pull Back

It’s easy to feel helpless, but change starts with us – not just with leaders.

Even small actions matter:

Re-engage – voting, joining community groups, or starting conversations.
Stay informed – read widely, question what you hear, and look beyond headlines.
Build community – small acts of connection restore trust where politics often fails.
Speak up – share your thoughts, even if it’s just with friends or family.

Each small step is part of a bigger momentum: one that leans toward compassion, fairness, and unity rather than division. Stand in your truth and don’t be swayed by the noise of mainstream politics. Instead, choose to align your values with what you’re hearing, and walk away from those whose words do not match their actions. By doing this, you not only protect your own integrity but also help society pull back from political extremes.

Where Change Really Begins

Politics and society don’t have to stay trapped in disillusionment. Frustration and fear in politics is real, but they don’t have to define us, or our decisions. Instead, we can choose to focus on understanding, trust, and small actions that bring people together.

Momentum works both ways. We can pull back from political extremes by staying engaged, informed, and connected – and by rebuilding trust where it matters most: in our communities.
