Anything negative reinforces my insecurities about my disability. It’s not that I’m looking for insecurities, but negativity energy can trigger some of the old thoughts.

It's all too common for us to subconsciously hold on to insecurities from childhood. Although our childhood issues may not always impact our ability to make positive choices in our every day lives, every now those insecurities can compound some of the negative issues we have.

What’s clear is we need to create and be responsible for our own happiness. Where our experiences may counter that, it is important to accept we are no longer that child and find a way through so that we see our issues in a positive light.

Ilana Estelle is a mental health and wellbeing advocate who combines educational insight with her personal experience of living with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. She holds diplomas in Counselling, Diet and Nutrition, Nutritional Therapy, Psychotherapy and Counselling, and Stress Management. Through her writing, Ilana supports others in navigating their emotional, mental, and physical health challenges. In addition to writing for The CP Diary, her work has appeared in healthy lifestyle magazines.
