Something inspirational:

“I have accepted fear as part of life specifically the fear of change, I have gone ahead despite the pounding in the heart that says: turn back.”

  1. You have to be a strong person to work through fear. Fear cripples many and it stops people from doing a lot of things.

It takes some soul searching and extra fortitude to want to change your situation.

  2. I view change as an inevitable and essential part of life's journey, but it has taken me a while to embrace it, rather than run away from it.

Your quote reminds me of the saying, "feel the fear and do it anyway."

    1. Thank you. Yes you're probably not alone.

I'm not sure how many of us really work through the fear we feel to change what we know we should change, but agree with you that change is not only inevitable but essential too.

This quote also reminds me of the same saying.

  3. I tend to get anxious when facing something new. I think my disability is a big part as to why.

For instance, going out to an event of any sorts makes me anxious. I start wondering if it's going to be difficult for me to get around and how people will react to me because of my disability.

Negative ideas form in my mind of what could go wrong. That's why most of the time I force myself to go out. If I don't want to feel so isolated, I have to do it. I also do it for my family.

    1. Thanks Maria. Doing anything new is enough to make us anxious, but couple that with a disability and there is more to worry about as you rightly say. Not everyone is comfortable around disability or knows how to accept what we deal with.

I think confidence for many is still also an issue. A lack of confidence because of what we deal with can bring about thoughts of us not being good enough, or not being accepted by other people and that can make us even more anxious.

I think being such a deep thinker as a child probably helped me cope with confidence quite a bit because I don't remember having too many problems with confidence. There was a lot I wasn't allowed to do so may be that also had something to do with it.

I was never encouraged to get myself out there and didn't know about my Cerebral Palsy, so I wasn't exposed enough to worry in that way. I think you're right though. It is important we get ourselves out there for us and our family. It's not only good for us, but also helps us with our confidence, if we continue to do it for long enough.

Not doing it means we're more likely to shy away and if we're already struggling with confidence, we will continue to struggle with confidence.
