Very true quote. My perspective on peace tends to be optimistic and I should never be detached from thinking that way, for the sake of my soul.
But there's a dark dirty undercurrent working hard to reverse any progress we've made in terms of peace. It makes me want to carry hand sanitizer so it won't rub off on me.
It doesn't matter what goes on around you Tim, it's being optimistic and living your life through positive and optimistic eyes that has made you into who you are.
If more of us were optimistic, we would all be dancing to the same tune and pulling in the same direction. You would and never could be swayed from where you are now emotionally. Don't let those dark dirty undercurrents reverse your own progress.
Even if the world were to crumble around you Tim, you would still be standing, which is absolutely testament to your strength of character and your soul.

The whole point to life and the Universe is that we work together for the good of mankind. When we move or pull away from that which is what we have here, this dark dirty undercurrent will always be there.
The more we work together, the more the Universe will work with us. I believe the Universe has an in-built self-correcting mechanism, although history has taught us these interventions may not be when we wish them to take place.
I haven't had a lot of peace in my life, but it would be nice to have it more often in the future. Yes, it does seem like we still won't have a lot of it in the near future in the world.
There hasn't been a lot of it anywhere in recorded history, or at least for very long. Sadly people are still basically at the stage of being talking monkeys, so I don't see a lot of it in the very near future. Maybe if we stopped fighting over every little thing, we could work together long enough to solve all the world's problems.
Chances are this won't happen anytime soon, seeing as war is such a profitable business which people don't seem to get. World peace would be a fantastic idea, but only if people stop fighting long enough to achieve it.

Unfortunately, we have a long way to go. In the meantime, we should look at our own lives and start with ourselves first.
