“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Gandhi's quote reveals a profound truth that how you see the world is what is seen inside of you. It is important to dig deep and lead by example, instead of getting caught up in other people’s issues.
Taking control
Gandhi’s quote certainly makes you think. The reality is, that where we have issues, we may simply imply it is others who need to change, but we should take control. The notion of ‘be the change you want to see in the world' does powerful things when you choose to adopt and accept it.
Spiritual maturity
As you put the work in you grow and mature. The good experiences can shape you so that you live positive lives. The bad experiences can if you understand and work through those, give you strength of character. Life isn't about getting others to change, it's about being the change you want to see happen and implementing those changes.
When it comes to family, they may always have their opinions of you and that may never change. But no matter what your values are, through growth the person you once were can change, but other's perceptions of you may still stay the same. That doesn't matter because the universe knows you.
Stunted emotional growth
Where you may change and go through spiritual and emotional growth, for others time may stand still. Where they are emotionally, is how they may continue to see and judge you. Will that change? It can, but they have to want to change.
Changing attitudes
That said, in today's world, it is important to mirror the change so that you may keep pace with what is happening in the world; attitudes need to change. That statement has never been truer, than it is today in Brexit and Covid-19.
I have learned the hard way, that the only person I can change is myself. Others seem to have their own opinion about things which they don't seem to want to change.
Now I have taken control of my own life and am trying to do the right things, it has gotten so much better. For those who don't seem to want to change, time stands still for them. It's something I did in the early years.
Although mirroring any change is difficult, time standing still in the longer term is even more difficult, because you're not getting to live the life that has already been mapped out for you.
Thanks Randy. Yes that lesson came to me late also. It's not something you always understand how to change, but once 'you get it' you get it for 'life.'
Mirroring any change is easier than we all think. The reason we don't is because we think it's more difficult than it actually is.
Anyone can wake up and decide they are going to be better. By being better I mean emulating and bringing the 'spiritual aspects' of your being into your every day life. In my blog I start the process, but my books will take you by the hand and show you how.
Just by being more empathetic, more compassionate, more tolerant and patient, you're mirroring that change. A soulful journey isn't difficult to take and once you do, it gives you the most peace.
'Earthly traits' can never do that.
