Spirituality expects that however our life works out, we are responsible. If we don’t change anything then that is our responsibility too.

It’s not enough to talk about an issue, replay the same messages without redressing the issue, or move on from our experiences. We should also think about and come to understand other people’s part in our lives, where we may fit in and why we may not always be responsible. Not everything that happens to us is about us.

As children we’re not always equipped to understand our lives, and if we are, we’re not always in a position to make any changes, but as the adult we are. If we want to change something we will, or we can just talk about it.

It’s not enough to talk the talk, we need to also walk the walk. When we tie our actions to our words, we can make significant changes towards a better lifestyle and life.

  1. Yes, walking the walk is always a lot harder than just talking the talk. This is the expression that we use in AA as far as walking the walk, so it's something I need to learn how to do more often.

Since I wasn't really allowed or able to change things as a child, I often forget that I can actually do it now and no one can stop me from doing what I need to do.

My friend keeps trying to remind me of that fact, seeing as he gets tired of hearing me whine about my problems, when there are things I can do to make my life better.

The reality is that I am an adult and I don't have to allow people to tell me how to live my life. It is quite the foreign concept for me to be able to live my own life, but I think I can get used to it.

    1. Thanks Randy. Yes, where you say 'the reality is that I am an adult and I don't have to allow people to tell me how to live my life' that's right.

And although it's a foreign concept, it applies to all of us. It's something we must do, before the life we would want to live fades away.

Sadly, we often leave it too late before taking up the slack. There's always tomorrow, but perhaps that's not quite true.

  2. I didn't know much about walking the walk until I took baby steps to embrace myself first. After that, my life was forever measured by my standards.

You can say I changed the rules and stayed in my lane where I'm most happy.

  3. Thanks Tim. You're absolutely right. The more we embrace ourselves, the more we will choose to get on with life.

Although our lives are measured by our standards, standards will differ, therefore it's important we raise our standards.
