Mental health issues can turn into mental health illness. It’s not the experience that hurts us, it is our perceptions, not being able to let go of the issues that continue to grate that we continue to ruminate on. With a lifetime of mental and emotional struggles my books concentrate on mental health.
Mental Health and Illness
But mental health, if ignored, stirs up all sorts of thoughts and emotions that can make us mentally and physically ill. The longer we ignore mental health, the more difficult the issues were dealing with are to treat.
My early mental health issues
I was aware from an early age that I was dealing with mental health issues. I have continually been grappling with anxiety and bad thoughts since I was a small child. Looking back, and with no help, I can’t believe how long I have struggled.
Embrace your 'emotions'
Unless you 'talk out' your issues, other interventions can leave you in a worse place. For example, prescribed medication can have undesired side effects, but in any case, medication doesn't deal with the underlying issues. I embrace my physical, mental and emotional disability because it is me.
Stigma arises from prejudice and perceptions
The stigma isn't disability, the stigma arises from people's prejudices, perceptions and how others communicate with us. We should be here to support, and not to make life difficult, because they're already finding life difficult.
Mental Illness is isolating
Mental illness is isolating. Although it’s not easy to understand why someone would choose to hurt, if you can get to the bottom of that, you can decide whether you choose to tackle the issue, or you walk away.
In the pandemic, where mental health is literally at the bottom of the pile, with work on ourselves we can work on our mental health. None of us are free of mental health issues, now would be a good time to deal with mental health.

For lots of reasons, self-care has never been so important as it is now. Anyone who reads your blog or your books will know why it’s important to support you, because you selflessly support them, by talking about mental health.
Mental health is something we should all be concentrating on right now. My daily self-care starts with catching up with your blogs on this site and finishes with a quick dip into one of your books – a routine I would recommend to anyone.
Yes, none of us are free of mental health issues, but in the pandemic mental health was the first thing to be ignored.
It should have been the first thing we picked up on. I have, I hope more people will. You can’t put a price on good mental health and yet it’s something we gamble with daily, by ignoring it and making ‘things’ a priority.
As a fruitful writer and author, you have instilled feelings of hope and optimism for people teetering on the edge of mental illness. Helping people has always been your goal.
Years ago, your writings brought me out of some troubled times. Now I have my brief moments in the spotlight.
But don’t blame me for that, blame you. (smile)
Thanks Tim. The spotlight is on you, fab news. I am more than happy to take a back seat. You’re proving to everyone else that when you are ready to take responsibility for your mental health, your fortunes can change.
What matters is what we do with the tools. Without good mental health it is difficult to sustain good health. In the pandemic, there are many people teetering on the edge of mental illness, agreed. I have seen it in my own family. It’s out there. And yet people are ignoring their mental health.
I hope your response will change people’s thinking. It needs to! Music to my ears, I am so pleased you are having brief moments in the spotlight. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, you would have more of those brief moments.
The virus has touched everyone’s mental health, (including my own) which the wider population seem to be ignoring. People need to understand they need to start being proactive on their mental health.
I pray it happens, it needs to! For anyone interested in making their mental health a priority, my books deal with mental health. To purchase, follow the link at the top of this blog, or go to the homepage.
