I talk about mental health on my blog, because it's good for my health, for each of our health. But through an unprecedented health crisis, how is mental health faring?
Happiness Survey
A global survey that ranked citizen happiness in 150 countries and over, showed the United States recorded lows in happiness. The world has experienced a global pandemic, new life routines and an economic collapse, and mental health is affected.
Mental Health
Mental health has and continues to be overlooked, even more so because we’re in a global pandemic. People’s state of mind has always been secondary to that of their physical health, but it’s now time to wake up. Ignoring mental health means our overall well-being will be hindered. When we ignore mental health, illness sets in.
Mental Health Survey
A survey carried out on 1,000 people from Europe, US and Australia explored their priorities around mental health and how their mental health related to Covid-19. The study showed that very few people described their mental health as ‘excellent.’ And even though around half of all people reported that their mental health was less than ‘good’ it still wasn’t common practice for them to seek out professional treatment. Mental Health needs to take priority
The main reason cited was, they didn’t think their issues were serious enough. But until we choose to take control, and mental health is seen as a priority over physical health, there will always be a disconnection in how we mentally feel and how we physically cope and that creates illness.
Mental health needs to be on the forefront of public health concerns. Families have been affected by mental health issues, and seeking out professional help and therapy is still not on our priority list and needs to be.
