Food for thought:
“Children who are not encouraged to do, to try, to explore, to master, and to risk failure, often feel helpless and inadequate. Over-controlled by anxious, fearful parents, these children often become anxious and fearful themselves. This makes it difficult for them to mature. Many never outgrow the need for ongoing parental guidance and control. As a result, their parents continue to invade, manipulate, and frequently dominate their lives.”

Wow this quote doesn't pull any punches. It's pretty much how not to parent. I knew someone who said that she didn't go to school to learn how to be a parent. While it's true, it also avoids the responsibility.
We all make mistakes with our parenting but owning up and accepting those mistakes and changing things for your children is essential if they are to grow up without the emotional trauma, our parents left us with.
I find it sad, quotes like this exist. Quotes are written to resonate with every day life and experiences.
I think we can all probably relate, or know someone who can relate to the words in this quote. Sadly, it's not unique or exclusive.
There is a struggle in all of us.
