Until I started writing on ‘my blog’ I never really understood the world around me, but it is a world that we all need to understand. The natural world is struggling because of us, therefore it is us who needs to change.

Sir David Attenborough, Chris G Packham, both naturalists, continue to talk about the natural world and climate change, the very things we should all be concerned about, the things I talk about on my blog. Without changing the life we are currently living; the world is going look and feel very different. It is already heading that way.

Facts are facts. They don't go away because we choose to ignore them. Global warming and climate change cannot be ignored, and it will continue to affect us. Wildfires, floods, and droughts are happening at a fast pace, it’s time to wake up to the world’s realities; to our realities. It is time to act.

The Science

“The climate emergency demands action from all of us. We need to get to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and everyone has a role to play,” said Niklas Hagelberg, UNEP’s Climate Change Coordinator. “We, as individuals, must change our consumption habits and pressure those who represent us – our employers, our politicians – to move rapidly to a low-carbon world.” – (source: uneporg)

So, what can we do?

Spread the word, so you’re encouraging family, friends’, and co-workers to act. There’s a global movement called Count Us In, which aims to inspire 1 billion people to practically take steps to challenge leaders to act more boldly on climate change.

Keep up the political pressure

If you're not already doing so, start lobbying businesses and local politicians to support efforts to reduce carbon pollution and to cut emissions. Decide on a specific request for change on an environmental issue you’re passionate about and see what you can do. Groups such as #ActNow and Speak Up have sections on corporate action and political pressure. Count Us In also have tips on how to do this. We must all be part of the change. Politicians must be part of the solution.

Other things you can do

Change your transport, so you’re not using your car every day. If you live closer to work either take public transport instead, walk or cycle to work. If the other options aren’t appropriate for you, carpool, so fewer cars are on the road. Preferably choose public transport, electric option if it’s available.

Also, check out your energy provider. Tweak parts of your diet, so you buy or continue sustainable and shop local. (Source: uneporg)

While you may not be directly affected, the world is seeing catastrophic changes and is asking everyone to change.
