I believe it is important we make connections. By way of an example, good health practices from our parents in childhood set us up for good health practices in our adult lives.

As children, we take health practices for granted, consciously not giving what we've been taught a second's though. Although we may see what our parents do, we’re not always consciously making those connections.

Couple that scenario with added stress and we end up doing very little for ourselves, for our health. It is that which we need to change, if we are to live healthier and happier lives. We must always consciously connect and make ourselves consciously aware.

We need to understand how to get the best out of our health, because having good health will always determines how well we live our lives.

  1. Yes, we should make the connections with the good health practices we are shown in childhood.

It's important that as parents we start good health practices early with our children too. We should also set an example for our children by having good health practices ourselves. Children practice what they see, so if they are around parents with poor health practices they are more than likely going to repeat what they see.

My parents taught me to eat well, but they had their own vices too that I unfortunately repeated when I was younger. I really can't blame them for my faults, but I think they contributed especially my father who smoked and had his beer every night.

He wouldn't get stinking drunk though. He worried all the time and had some nervous problems and I think he just got used to the beer to help calm his nerves and make his worries go away for a while.

I used to drink with my friends when I was a teenager and in my early 20's but hardly ever drink now.
My mother didn't drink or smoke but she would keep her little stash of candy in the cabinet occasionally.

She kept herself busy with work, church activities and home raising two daughters. She was also a giver. She wanted everybody to be happy. She gave a lot of herself to others. I keep myself busy like she did and I will be the first to admit I need to slow down a little and have been trying, just by spending more time with my son.

Yes we need to set good health examples for our children so they will live good healthy lives when they grow up.

    1. Thanks Lisa. Yes we all need to make the connections on all levels, but particularly make the connections around our health. Bad practises by our parents does ultimately lead to bad practises by us.

It's good that you have turned some of your vices around and that you're doing better with your health and lifestyle. I believe it's always important to make those connections so that we give ourselves the opportunity to live the best lives that we can.

Without consciously connecting I'm not sure what quality of life we will have. I believe that when we consciously connect we remain in control and that remaining in control is the key to the way we live our lives.

  2. Life is about making connections isn't it ? Everything we do, how we relate to one another, how we grow and develop as individuals, and everything we say works in our connected world, not a vacuum, so it is hugely important that we are aware of our actions in this way.
