It’s Christmas Eve, that time of year again where I get to talk about the year. I’d like to say it’s gone quickly, but truthfully it has dragged. With Covid-19 in full swing it’s been a tough year for all of us.

How we behave in Covid-19

But if there is one thing Covid-19 is highlighting and teaching us, it’s that we need to act and behave unselfishly, to tackle the bigger issues, starting with Covid-19. What I am writing in my blog today is just a fraction of the issues that are continuing to have a big impact, not only our lives now, but future generations not yet born.

Global issues

It isn't hard to notice the global issues taking centre stage. The natural world is struggling and so will the human species in the longer term. Animals you and I grew up with, are declining in their droves. As WWF continue to talk about the various inequalities and the different plights, as a species, we continue to ignore those very things through the lifestyles we lead.

There are people like Sir David Attenborough who tirelessly fight to highlight the world's problems, but we need to work together, to want to do more. And not let's forget about climate change, we need to lower our carbon footprint.

Third World Countries

People in third world countries are already living without access to medical care, without food, without water or a roof over their heads; or sanitation. The inequalities are astounding, they are the very things we take for granted, that we have.

Children are starving to death. There is a high rate of gender inequality around the world. Governments and people alike all need to be part of the solution. Working together to help alleviate global issues isn't difficult or stressful. We just have to want to care, to do better and to become better people.

Ignoring the facts

By unconsciously ignoring the facts, we're sending out a message to the universe that we don't care and that's not saving the human species, or the world. If there is to be a world for future generations moving forward, we need to act. Not acting is selfish and dangerous. Time is running out.

Improving the world

By improving our world, we're saving it and ourselves. The good part is, there are already well-established structures in place for us to see where help is needed. There are organisations that can help us contribute towards sustainability, projects like Global Vision International (GVI) that take significant strides towards resolving some of these issues.

Although time is on our side, scientists have made it clear that time is running out. It is something we all need to do together.

  1. Climate change, biodiversity loss, widespread poverty and the pandemic are reminders that there is a cause bigger than ourselves. Do we really need reminding? Unfortunately we do.

But how many reminders will we ignore before its too late for reminders and to late to address these issues? I fear we are staring at the edge of that time now.

Perhaps 2022 will be the year of action, not just more political hot air.

    1. It needs to be and I agree with you. Yes, politicians talk a lot. And we need to know they've got our backs, and that they're dealing with these issues to resolve those situations so that our lives are better.

Where you say... 'I fear we are staring at the edge of that time now' - I couldn't agree more. I hope time doesn't run out.
