It’s Christmas 2021, and as the world begins to celebrate, it feels important to also turn our attention to what has been happening around us with Covid-19 – so that we can move into 2022 with greater care and understanding.

Christmas time

Christmas is a time for reflection. A time for remembering, for lamenting, and for making sense of the year we’ve lived. During Covid, the world has witnessed unimaginable suffering and loss, with so many families left grieving after losing loved ones.

Yet within that pain, we have also seen extraordinary acts of kindness and compassion – doctors and nurses going far beyond the call of duty, caring not only for the physical needs of patients but for the emotional needs of families who have lost someone, and for those who continue to struggle.

Cut your cloth

My father used to say, “You cut your cloth,” meaning you adapt to the situation you’re in. In the time of Covid, that feels more relevant than ever. We are learning how to fit our lives around the virus, even as case numbers rise and we try to continue living.

Scientists remind us that whether vaccinated or not, we can still catch Covid and long Covid, and they continue to ask us to live carefully – to take the necessary precautions so that we can protect ourselves and one another.

I hope you all have a merry and safe Christmas.

  1. MERRY CHRISTMAS. Hard to believe that another year has passed already. The only thing that I really wanted for Christmas was to hear from my daughter, but it doesn't look very promising.

It does seem like people are trying to live their lives, like the pandemic isn't happening which is only going to make things worse.

I grew up in a world where denial was a normal thing. It's probably why I'm not bothered as much as everyone else seems to be. We can only hope and pray that things will get better for 2022 and beyond, for all of our sakes.

    1. Merry Christmas Randy. I hope you hear from your daughter, fingers crossed.

Yes, these are strange times and I agree with you, being in denial seems to be a thing. What the pandemic is showing us, is that the virus is very much alive and kicking and we do need to continue with the necessary precautions.

I too hope that things get better in 2022, but unless we are instrumental, nothing will change and cases of Covid-19 will continue to rise.

The vaccines in terms of fatalities are making a difference, but you can still catch Covid and Long-Covid, therefore we all need to be vigilant.
