I think your last paragraph sums up your response beautifully Tim. As a nation we are too wrapped up in our belief systems with complete obedience.
In other words we don't stop to think about or question our beliefs. We come to accept what we know without question and become more intolerant of those who stop to question their own.
I actually accept people for who they are and who they are not, as long as their belief system is respectful of mine.
But I think a major issue that stands between us and ourselves is our adherence to belief systems with complete blind obedience.
