I have no doubt you can choose to be both an activist and objective, so my view is Mr Frank is tending to generalise here.
You can, but if I was to bring my gut in here, I believe Barney Frank has a point.
We do tend to seek out information from sources that reinforce what we know. Narcissists tends to work that way.
Even when we're being told to the contrary, we still continue to defend ourselves.
