It's sad when people spend all their lives in their own little world. They’re not pro-active, they unconsciously don’t change anything, then something happens and the opportunities they could have had over the years seem a distant memory.

It's even harder when health issues take over and those health issues threaten their lives. It's different around a moderate to severe disability because often those choices are taken away, but others will have choices and opportunities: where some will make and continue to make choices so they act on those opportunities, others won't.

I wasn’t born knowing what I know and understand now. I have spent a considerable amount of time working on myself. The sad part is that the people we get to hear about, don’t choose to turn their lives around.

Living with Difference

Seen, Misjudged, Rarely Understood For most of my life, I lived in the dark. Not because I didn't know I was different, but because I didn't yet have the understanding to explain why life always felt harder than it seemed to be ...

What Writing Taught Me About Self-Understanding

How writing became more than a creative outlet When I started writing, I had no idea where it would lead. I simply needed somewhere to put my thoughts – a place to make sense of experiences I struggled to understand ...

  1. It is sad when people pass on opportunities then they get bad news and the opportunity is gone and they have no time to try again. Their thinking is a lot of 'I should have's' and I could have's.'

I try to live for the day and if an opportunity arises that I think will benefit me I take it. We need to live each day like it's our last.

Make the most of it, accomplish something if we can and love others.

    1. Thanks Lisa. I think you're right that you take the opportunity if it arises and that you feel you can.

Unfortunately for whatever reason unbeknown to us, life doesn't always seem to work out that way for them. It's very sad.

    1. I believe it's always important for us to try to understand why people are in the places they're in. It's lovely that you're able to understand.

  2. Many people end up in their later years reflecting on all the things they wish they had done when they had the chance.

I know personally I've spent far too many years stuck in morbid reflection and not paying attention to what I could do at the time, rather than just doing it. I didn't grow up in a world where anything seemed possible so I never learned the difference!

My biggest hope now is to make the best of the time I do have left. Both my parents slipped into dementia in their old age, so it doesn't bode well for my own future. There are many things that I can do now to enjoy my life and I really should focus on that.

I'm just hoping to become a decent human being while I can!

    1. Thanks Randy. I believe you've managed to see and are aware of your own journey because you understand your life's journey and what you've been through. You know it's up to you to make the best of the time you have left.

Unfortunately I know quite a few people who don't see or understand what you have come to understand about your life and how it all works. I am proud of how far you've come with what you've had to deal with and you are a decent human being.
