Something inspirational:

“If you know someone who’s depressed, please resolve never to ask them why. Depression isn’t a straightforward response to a bad situation; depression just is, like the weather.

Try to understand the blackness, lethargy, hopelessness, and loneliness they’re going through. Be there for them when they come through the other side. It’s hard to be a friend to someone who’s depressed, but it is one of the kindest, noblest, and best things you will ever do.”

  1. Depression is sad. I've been there and I agree with this quote. Just being there for someone who is depressed IS the kindest thing you can do.

  2. That is a really inspirational quote. I know that Stephen Fry has Bipolar so these are not hollow words, but from someone who understands what it is like to live with depression and that should make us stop and listen even more.

    1. Absolutely, I agree with you. That's the reason I used this quote. You're right, these are words from someone we can all aspire to; because he deals with his depression in such a positive way.

      Truly an inspiration.

  3. It would be nice if people didn't ask stupid questions about depression like, "Why can't you just get over it?"

Believe me, if I knew how to do that, I would've done so a very long time ago! People seem to think it's a way we choose to be when I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

I've been dealing with it sine I was 3 years old and it has been a Hell that no one else can understand unless they have to deal with it themselves. My best suggestion is to just try to be understanding and sympathetic to someone with depression.

They've probably already heard it all and just want a friend!

    1. Thanks Randy. Yes unless we walk in someone else's shoes, we will never know what another person will go through.

Depression as you know isn't that easy to deal with or get rid of. The quote I have used on the site was from someone who deals with Bipolar and although I don't have Bipolar or deal with depression, I do understand compassion.

I believe more of us should have and live with more compassion in our lives, so that we can help people who struggle with depression. If that happened, "Why can't you just get over it," would be a thing of the past. That really needs to happen.

More compassion would also create more tolerance.
