Choosing Rest, Reflection and Intention in Uncertain Times

Writing for and managing social media isn't easy. There’s always a crisis unfolding on the social media feeds political unease political divisions, economic struggles, wars, environmental disasters. The noise on social platforms is relentless. And for content creators, its exhausting.

The non-stop news cycle, the endless stream of updates – so much of it is negative news. It’s all loud and overwhelming. On top of that, I’m carrying trauma and depression from my childhood made heavier by the loss of my twin.

The Weight of It All

Stress, and fatigue, can hit when you're carrying this amount of weight. Although they're both completely normal responses, none of us are immune or emotionally equipped to carry this amount of stress all the time.

What You Can Do:

  • Limit news and social media. Stay informed, but you don’t need to know everything about what's going on;
  • Reflect and journal. Taking ten minutes to write about how you feel, can help you to release what's on your mind, instead of just absorbing everything;
  • Take rest when you need it. Rest is part of your resilience.

Choose Intention When You're Feeling Overwhelmed

We can’t fix global crises on our own, but we can choose how we engage with them. For me, that looks like staying informed enough to use my voice when it matters, but not letting every headline run or ruin my day. Protecting your energy means showing up with intention.

Ground Yourself In The Small Things

What keeps me grounded is taking breaks from the noise. When I began writing 15 years ago, the world was calmer and the noise was reduced. Now, the constant negative headlines leave me drained.

Writing for The CP Diary helps, but stepping back from the news helps even more. Each pause gives me space to breathe, regroup, and re-energise.

Protect Your Mental Health

Protecting mental health isn’t about turning away: it’s about choosing when to listen and when to rest, so we can keep showing up with intention and hope.

These small practices remind us we're not alone, and that mental clarity is possible even in uncertain times.
