Irritable Bowel Syndrome, known as IBS, is a disorder between the gastrointestinal tract and the brain, but there may also be problems with the immune system and the gut flora.

It is not known what causes IBS, but it is common for people with IBS to have gastroesophageal reflux that relates to the genitourinary system. There is a little bit of information out there that suggests links between reflux problems and IBS, but it's not always the case for everyone.

Symptoms of Irritable Bowel

Symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, discomfort with altering bowel habits. Symptoms vary daily and may be triggered by allergen foods such as oats, wheat and dairy, which can sometimes make the condition worse, so reducing those foods is an advantage.

Those with IBS may also suffer from fibromyalgia, backache, depression, anxiety and headaches, but again not everyone who deals with IBS has all of those symptoms. Although it's not curable, it can be managed through a healthy lifestyle, which is considered the best way to improve its symptoms.

It can also be managed through supplements such as probiotics, digestive enzymes and acidophilus.

  1. I am lactose intolerant. It took me a while before I figured this out, but now that I have it is easier to live with. I buy lactose free milk, take it easy on the cheese or any other dairy by product.

    1. It also took me time to figure it out. There is information out there, but linking it in with your own health is sometimes very difficult to do.

  2. I don't have any symptoms of IBS, but I should considering my past poor nutrition and current medical problems especially the fibromyalgia. I know being on a good diet can help IBS and this is a key part of helping the symptoms. Also Stress can make symptoms worse and can be a contributor to IBS. Learning relaxation techniques can help here.
