The pandemic broke us, it broke our mental health. Let's think about and let's talk mental health. Talking about anything that concerns you is talking about your mental health.

Why not start a conversation, talk about the things that matter to you and make time to have an in-depth discussion? I have seen what happens twice, when we ignore mental health. Your health is relying on it.

Talking about your Mental Health

Set time aside, to think about you, to think about your mental health. If a face-to-face talk is too intimidating, start off with a text, and talk about how you feel to someone. Mental health isn’t difficult to get your head around and once you start talking about issues, you can start to feel better. Mental health is even more essential than physical health, because without good mental health, physical health will fail.

Talking about mental health normalises the conversation and empowers you to talk so that you can talk about the things that matter to you, so that you can get the help you need. Through my blog, I continue to make clear distinctions between the ‘mind’ 'body' and 'health'. By not talking about mental health, we will simply put, continue to add to the stigma of ‘mental health' and that can continue to raise concerns over our health.

Harmful effects of mental health stigma includes:

  • A lack of understanding by loved one, friends and others;
  • Discrimination;
  • Physical, emotional and mental abuse;
  • Being continually undermined, so those people with mental health issues believe they can never improve their situation, or may never overcome certain mental health challenges.

For those people on the receiving end of stigma, it can lead to a reluctance to seek help, or treatment. If society’s attitude were to change, more people would seek help for their mental health challenges. Although mental health challenges can run in families, it could be one situation or circumstance that tips the balance on mental health.

Mental health challenges can happen to any of us, when our ability to cope becomes less and less. No one asks to have to deal with mental health challenges, but if you do have mental health challenges, it is important to sort those out. In many cases, it can be the difference between life and death. I have lost family to mental health.

  1. My mental health was broken even before the pandemic, which means that I was dealing with these issues long before Covid.

    It made things more difficult as far as receiving treatment seeing as that has pretty much dried up, now they have pushed for me to get my psych meds from my regular doctor, along with only being able to speak to a therapist, if I'm lucky, twice a month.

    I have been neglecting my issues which has now led me to sleeping half the day away and wanting to avoid dealing with the real world. I'm only going to continue working until Christmas, as I have saved enough for another truck.

    I absolutely need to get back to dealing with my issues before things only get worse, which usually happens around the holidays. I can't afford to get dragged down by my issues once again since that always ends badly.

    There are things that I finally want to accomplish, which I can't do if I go down that dark path, like I have so many times before.

  2. If we're all being truthfully Randy, we've all ignored mental health in the pandemic. It's one of those things that has been ignored that we should be dealing with that can and in many cases, catch us out.

    I have seen a dip in my website and I have seen family struggle with mental health. I have also seen what happens when you ignore mental health and that's not pretty. Please deal with your mental health.
