We don’t have to be famous to be remembered for something we’ve done, or said that goes down in history, which we’re not proud of.

Unfortunately, when we emulate bad behaviour, we begin to define ourselves in ways that can come back to haunt others, when we are no longer around. Choose to define your behaviour so that history is kind and so that the memories you leave behind are etched in people’s minds, for the right reasons and not the wrong ones.

I have heard first-hand what happens when other people’s memories of the people we lose, are less than favourable and it certainly isn’t pretty.

Living with Difference

Seen, Misjudged, Rarely Understood For most of my life, I lived in the dark. Not because I didn't know I was different, but because I didn't yet have the understanding to explain why life always felt harder than it seemed to be ...

  1. I've done things in the past that I'm not proud of and people remember those things.

I felt at one time that that's what people think of when they see me, but I've changed for the good and I hope people will forget the past when I was young and dumb and remember me for the things I'm doing now.

    1. I'm sure many of us have Lisa. Those that matter and know you Lisa will know that you've changed for the better and they won't judge you. From my own experience it's those people who don't seem bothered to see.

From my experience it's usually those people who continue to live their lives a certain way that tend to leave behind a lot of bad memories and ill feeling with family.

  2. Good post. It took me a while to get to grips with it, but I agree with your sentiments completely.

I am sure we can all remember things we have done or said that we would not wish to be remembered for, but I suspect that for many of us, other people may not look at us and remember the same things.

Having said that I also think we would like to be remembered fondly and with affection rather than not, so it's our personal responsibility to 'get it right' this side of life and only we can do that.

    1. Ditto on your thoughts. I agree. Yes it is our responsibility to 'get it right' this side of life. It's a shame many don't.

  3. So very true. For every action, there is a reaction. I am aware of how my actions may affect others, and the memories my actions may leave behind. I've made my share of mistakes in the past.

At the end of the day, all we have left is a legacy and memories that seem to last forever.
