Mental health is not always given attention, despite the progress that has been made in reducing stigma around mental illness. It's as if there's a mismatch between our growing understanding of mental health and our willingness to prioritise and deal with it.
Mental Health isn't making significant strides
While society knows more about mental health, it still haven't made significant strides in addressing it. This is particularly concerning, given the rising prevalence of mental health issues worldwide. I've always had mental health to deal with. It's one of the reasons why I started The CP Diary, but it is fast becoming more obvious mental health isn't being taken seriously.
Organisations and healthcare systems
Organisations and healthcare systems are not doing enough to bring mental health back into the public arena, to help those people who need the support. Since Covid-19 mental health is much worse. For those living with mental health issues, they are very much out of sight, isolated.
Many people still face long waiting times for mental health, and have limited access to specialised care. Mental health issues like anxiety and depression are complex and require understanding, support and treatment.
Mental health is secondary
The fact that mental health is treated as a secondary, in many cases ignored, is also a significant issue. We need to individually deal with mental health, starting with how we feel.
