'National Conversation Week' takes place this year from the 18th to the 24th March. It aims to encourage more of us to engage in conversations, both in our personal and professional life. Whether it’s catching up with old friends, speaking and making conversations with work colleagues, most of us use email, text, or post a message on social media, rather than take the time to pick up the phone and speak to someone.

The World is 'tech'

Society and the world have become a tech nation. We’ve moved away from the personal connections we had where conversations were more important than texts and emails. Since the introduction of mobile phones that incorporate apps like WhatsApp, text, and email, we pick up the phone less.

Conclusion

If you were born in the 60's, you didn't have a mobile phone or a computer. Parenting in the early years was very much instrumental in how children behaved in their adult years – it was up to the parents to lay out the foundations they wanted for their children.

  1. I support anything that encourages people to talk to one another more. We live in a very detached society where people are often forgotten and families estranged.

It would be nice to see families sitting around a table at meal times, without their faces busied in a mobile phone or tablet.

    1. Thanks. Yes, I couldn't agree more. Although I have a mobile, I very rarely use it. It's never sat at the table with me.

It is important families open up. More so now given the current climate. Mobile phones seem to have replaced families talking to each other.

Where children spend too long on their phones parents often have to prize them away.
