I have always been passionate about animals. I learned about empathy through my struggles with a disability I didn’t know I had. My affinity with animals has come through a difficult life. I see a lot of their mental and emotional struggles in my struggles. We all need to do more to protect animals and wildlife.
Our Resident Wildlife Hedgehog
I hate to see any animal hurt or harmed and am an animal advocate. We have acquired a resident hedgehog. ‘Hogs’ as they’re called, leave their nests after dusk to look for insects such as beetles, caterpillars, and invertebrates including slugs and earthworms.
A little about Hedgehogs
They feed on berries and fruits. In the spring and summer months they build fat reserves, ready for their hibernation in the winter months. They usually forage on bugs and snails, but if we leave cat or dog food out for them, they will eat that too.
Conclusion
We should all want to do more for wildlife, to protect animals. There is a lot of good out there, but there are too many sad stories where animals are abandoned and abused. Animals are helpless and they need a voice. It is our job to protect them, not harm them. We need to help them survive in their natural habitats. Their survival helps us with our own survival. We all should be doing more to help protect and preserve their lives.
It must be nice to see your resident hedgehog thriving before hibernating for the winter. It reminds us that we are just one part of an ecosystem yet we treat that ecosystem as if we are at its centre.
Like us, animals aren't just here for their own sake, they're part of a wider natural environment that provides food, water, and shelter, water for wildlife and inhabitants of our planet.
I am an animal advocate too. Unfortunately it seems that we are taking them, their habitats and our planet for granted.
Thank you. Yes, I love seeing it and the problem is people don't think about that. But I do think we all need to do more.
It is good that you are an animal advocate also. To save one life is a success story. If we can save more, even better.
Either way we must get a grip on their realities and ours, before our own species becomes threatened also.
