During our lifetime, some of us will spend a lot of time weighing up the pros and cons on the things we choose to do and that's right.

I tend to assess my options first. That way I make less mistakes and weigh up any risk factors. Unfortunately, as is the case, some of the things we choose, or love to do, come with risks. We just have to open a newspaper or listen to the news to hear of the risks other people have taken.

Walking away from something never seems an option, particularly once that person has made up their minds it’s what they want to do. We don't always believe in playing things safe. We’re often prepared to take risks and do what we love to do, than walk away and regret our choice for not trying. I’m not sure how many of us will equate what we love with any possible risks.

If we choose to go ahead, we should at least know exactly what we’re getting ourselves into. It’s no consolation of course, for loved ones, who will always have concerns.

For those taking the risks, in some respects it makes what they've done easier, because whatever the outcome; they know it had been their choice.

  1. 'Think before you leap,' are very wise words. My mom used to tell me this and I remember telling my daughter the same thing when she was younger and even now. I usually take heed to these words myself.

There are some people that just leap without thinking and the outcome is sometimes disagreeable, but I also think there are times when we don't have time to think. We just do it and hope the outcome is good.

    1. Thanks Lisa. Yes your mum is right, they are very wise words. I'm not sure I'd want to make a habit of it!

It would be the not knowing how something's going to work out that would stress me more.

  2. I've never been much of a risk taker. I generally weigh my options and examine the casualty rate before I leap into something I'm not sure of.

I took a few risks in my younger years, but taking risks at my age is way too risky.

    1. Thanks Tim. Yes perhaps as we age we become more wise, therefore are less likely to want to take risks. When we're young we don't think about risks. Perhaps it is an age thing.

I'm with you though. I would also rather weigh my options up before I leap into something I'm not sure of.
