I should follow my own advice and take time out for mental health, but it's difficult with autism. Mental health is an important component of our beating heart.
Mental Health
Without taking time to mentally rest, exhaustion or burnout can happen to anyone. The nature of what autism is, can make fatigue or burnout more likely, due to sensory pressures through social situations and us trying to fit in and through sensory overload through autism.
Time out
When you take time out, you give yourself time to rethink; to regroup, to think about your yourselves, to think about 'you.' Time out gives you time to think about where, and if you need to make any changes. Taking time out is necessary. In a world that revolves around tech, time out is necessary for emotional and spiritual growth.
Fatigue and Burnout
It is also essential for anyone dealing with fatigue or burnout, to manage their energy levels. For me, burnout comes through sensory overload, changes in my everyday routine, having to manage other people’s expectations of my mental and emotional disability, which can cause stress and anxiety.
In certain situations I sometimes have to mask, or camouflage my autistic traits and that can make me fatigued. For me, having to find a place to fit in, is mentally tiring.
