There are lots of reasons backed up by science why it's advantageous to go for a run in the morning. Here are just some of those good reasons.

You can watch the sun rise during early morning runs

Watching the sun come up is the best way to start the day and if you don't get up before dawn to go for a run, how else are you going to get all those sunrise photos for Instagram!

Morning runs tend to be less crowded

Morning runs tend to be less overcrowded. Although there may be runners, there are usually less people running on a morning, which will certainly make your run a lot calmer and more enjoyable than in the evenings. Also, once out of bed, we tend to be more invigorated and have more energy.

Focusing is easier when running in the morning

When you go for a run in the morning, something wonderful happens. You may feel as though your brain is working at a higher level, because you notice your surroundings more.

Morning runs free up your evening

It might be an obvious thing to say but it's great knowing that a morning run means the rest of the day isn’t taken up by exercise, or you feel guilty if you can’t get to exercise during the day. It may be that you get inundated with meetings and conference calls and various unplanned commitments, but that's fine as your run is done.

Adding morning runs to your routine can improve your sleep habits

The potential for better sleep is yet another reason why you should run in the morning. It is well known that getting regular aerobic exercise can improve sleep quality and help ease insomnia. We tend to have more energy in the morning than on an evening.

That said, morning runs might not be for everyone, so it's important to find out what's right for you.

  1. Since getting a dog to help with our mental health in the pandemic, I go for an early morning walk every day. This blog is right, there is something special about being outside, while the city is mostly asleep.

I often walk across a golf course around 06:30 and last week I saw two deer and a family of ducks, and the course was shrouded in mist. It certainly gave my day a really great start.

    1. Thanks. Yes, since my diagnosis and with autism, I've struggled even more with my mental health. I do get out for exercise, but the mornings have become a little more difficult since my Trigeminal Neuralgia diagnosis.

As much as I can, I shall continue to do my best. My writing helps me to focus on other thoughts. I'd be in trouble without having this outlet.
