I agree it's a good quote, although I have to say I have never had much of a helping hand and thankfully learned to look after myself at an early age.
In that respect I firmly believe we should all try and do that.
You've been fortunate that you haven't had to bite the hands that feeds because you've had the opportunity to make decisions for yourself.
Unfortunately not everyone is that fortunate that they are left to their own devices.
