Allium cepa, also known as Liliaceae, is derived from the red onion family and is primarily used for those suffering from headaches; earaches; colds; tickly coughs and hay fever.

Allium Cepa is used on those patients suffering with headaches, or children who suffer with earaches, with a sharp pain in the ear. The patient will use this remedy for a cold, which stems from cold wet weather, with symptoms ranging from streaming eyes and nose, and/or a congested nose.

The remedy is also used for those suffering with hay fever with the onset of symptoms varying from watery eyes and constant sneezing and a discharge that makes the nostrils sore. The problem may move from side to side, affecting only one nostril at a time. The patient’s eyes and eyelids may also be swollen.

This remedy may also be useful for patient’s suffering with neuralgia brought about by toothache, stemming from the molar teeth; where the pain moves from one tooth to another.

Allium cepa is also used for the early onset of laryngitis together with hoarseness. It may also be used to treat coughs.
