Many things spring to mind when I write about my physical, mental and emotional disability. I am irritated by how I got here. That part hasn't got any easier.

They say time is a great healer and in many respects it's true, time heals many things, but even with our reasons and understanding, it depends on the deed and how long what happened, was allowed to continue.

We can reason with ourselves and bring as much understanding as we want, but what we deal over the years has many connotations. Around a disability, others don't know what we deal with, and even if they did, with a mental and emotional disability, it changes everything.

So, depending on how much time lapsed, time may not always bring about healing, it depends very much on the time lapse, how you got to that place and what you've had to deal with.

  1. They say that 'time heals all wounds' but obviously it's meant to placate people who haven't been through something all that traumatic.

There's a big difference when you have experienced an entire childhood of traumatic events, which never allowed for healing. I would have to say those wounds may scab over, but they don't fully heal since it doesn't always take much to reopen them.

It would be great if that really was the case, but it's never quite that simple in my opinion.

    1. Thanks Randy. I agree, it all depends on what you've been through as a child and I also agree it wouldn't take much for trauma (what we have experienced) to re-open again, you're right.

The nature of how the emotions works is that we remember far more than we forget, and it's fine if we're remembering the good things, the things that don't hurt us.

That said, with work on ourselves over time, things can get easier. It is important for us to find an acceptance on our experiences and bring closure.

I know that if apologies were more forthcoming from those who do hurt us, our lives would look and feel very different.
