Each of us have individual narratives to carry, to own. Stories that belong to us and shape who we are. If the world truly embraced this idea, conflicts based on assumptions, control, and misunderstandings would lessen. My narratives revolve around morality, integrity, and the values I hold dear, all expressed through my writing.

These are additional key aspects:

Self-Ownership

I am the owner of my story, of my experiences, as you are of yours. It is important to own your own 'stories'.

Accountability and Integrity

Honesty, accountability and integrity all matter. If we all took responsibility for our actions instead of shifting the blame on to others, the world would look and feel more peaceful. I strive to own my words, my choices and the impact they have on others. I always have. Integrity and accountability isn’t just about what we say, but also about standing firm in our truth.

Mutual Respect

Everyone has their own journey. Listening and acknowledging our different realities, is a step towards us understanding each other. Our stories may differ, but that doesn’t mean they are any less important or real.

Truth and Authenticity

The world would be more genuine if people lived their truth rather than trying to control narratives outside of their own. If they did, manipulation, propaganda, and false representations would all be a thing of the past.

Conclusion

Growing up, truth, honesty and integrity were lacking in my life. Accountability was also lacking. There were no conversations, no open doors for questions – around a disability I didn’t even know I had. Years of silent struggles, unanswered questions and the heavy weight of carrying an unknown burden all took its toll on my mental health. The journey to understanding my condition was neither simple nor straightforward. It was layered with difficult emotions, shaped by the silence that surrounded it. Without my parents' narrative, I've had to work it all out.

But it’s hard to describe the impact of living in that space, not knowing why everything was difficult, and why I felt different and out of my depth. It’s not that I expected to have all the answers, but some honesty would have been good. The truth, however, remains – whether or not it's fully seen, understood, or fully told. Truth, honesty and integrity sets us on a path to a better world.
