Illness starts in the mind. The idea that it starts in the mind, highlights the connection between mental and physical health. The mind plays a pivotal role in shaping how we think, how we feel and how we act, ultimately influencing our overall health.

The Mind's Role in Health

Stress and physical illness are connected. Stress that can become chronic can trigger conditions like a weakened immunity, hypertension and heart disease. The connection between the mind and body can also bring about conditions such as migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, and chronic pain, which can be intensified by anxiety or depression.

Mental Health

Mental health is the backbone to overall wellness. It impacts our coping strategies, our daily habits, and our decision making. For example, depression can leads to bouts of low moods, to erratic eating, which can interfere with physical health. On the other hand, feeling positive, having a positive mental state promotes resilience, allows for healthier choices, and better stress management.

We Need to Understand How 'Mental Health' Works

There needs to be more understanding in just how the mind and mental health work. Addressing mental health early can prevent issues from escalating into more severe physical conditions. A holistic approach helps underscore the importance of practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and cognitive-behavioural therapy. All these practices highlight how nurturing mental wellbeing can enhance physical health. Focusing on mental health is not just about preventing illness – it’s also about enriching our lifestyle, our lives.
